SLD: 2. Building blocks from a CHC perspective

In this workshop we further unpack our understanding of SLD by looking at it through the lens of the Cattell-Horn-Carroll Theory of Cognitive Abilities, otherwise known as CHC Theory. CHC is a theory that assists us in understanding a child’s cognitive abilities according to three strata/levels. Through the lens of this theory, we will explore SLD in terms of a child’s general underlying cognitive functioning (Stratum III), 16 Broad Abilities (Stratum II) and several Narrow Cognitive Abilities (Stratum I). At the end of the session, you will better understand CHC Theory and its application to our understanding of SLD.
