The boss-subordinate relationship is a partnership, or at least should be. We are very familiar with the performance management process which is primarily a top-down discussion based on predetermined objectives. We are not so familiar with the upwards managing of the relationship. By putting these two approaches together, one can predict a far better outcome for both parties as well as the organisation. On many occasions staff are faced with a manager who inadvertently negatively affect their ability to perform the very tasks that have been allocated. Gaining some knowledge and skill in this area is imperative.
This intervention is aimed at anyone who needs to develop some skills and strategies for getting the most out of a manager/direct report relationship. It is applicable for any manager, supervisor, or staff member who would like to influence and impact on relationships.
